The following are a list of frequently asked questions from clients that we feel may be of benefit to you.

If you have any other queries, please don’t hesitate to drop us a line and a member of our team will respond to you shortly.

What is a responsive website and do I need one?

A responsive website is one that adjusts it’s size depending on the type of device you are on. This ensures an optimal user experience across all devices. It is the most cost affective option if you want your site to both look and perform well on all devices.

Mobile accounts for more than 52.2 percent of all web traffic worldwide, so it is imperative that your site caters for this majority of users. To add further importance to the need for a responsive site, it is also expected that Google will start to penalise sites that are not optimised correctly for mobile devices in the later half of this year.

What do I need to run a WordPress site?

Here at Transpose Digital we like to make sure that all of our builds are kept up to date with WordPress suggested requirements. Therefore our themes will not run on any server that does not support the following…

  • PHP version 7.2 or greater
  • MySQL version 5.6 or greater OR MariaDB version 10.0 or greater
  • Nginx or Apache with mod_rewrite module
  • HTTPS support

What Hosting Company should I use?

What are your specific website needs?

For example, what type of website are you building, does your website need special software?

Server Reliability / Uptime Scores

It is essential that you pick a hosting company that is reliable, with a strong uptime score. The industry standard for reliability (also known as availability) is 99.5%. Top performing hosting companies have an uptime score of 99.9%.

Security is key

Although your website security depends hugely on the administrator of the site, how they maintain their site, password security etc. the hosting company’s infrastructure can also impact your security measures significantly. Ensure the provider you chose has strong security measures in place.

Be future thinking

Ensure you pick a hosting company that allows you to grow over time. Your needs may change as business as you continue to grow, so ensure your hosting company allows for this

What do we recommend?

SiteGround is one of the top options available for WordPress, since it’s beginner-friendly, highly scalable, and quite affordable.

Does my website need an SSL Cert?

We recommend that all websites should have an SSL cert. There are a few reasons for this:

  • SSL cert allows secure communication between your browser and any web server
  • If you are planning on running an Ecommerce website, most payment gateways require one to provide a secure checkout.
  • Security is a top priority for Google and they now use the SSL cert as a positive ranking signal in their algorithm
  • Google has also began flagging unsecure websites to users before they enter. This could hugely affect the traffic to your website. If I was a customer coming onto your website, I don’t think I would go any further and risk any security breach with my information. If people don’t trust your website, will they trust your brand?

Most of the bigger hosting companies, including our recommended hosting option – Siteground, offer an SSL Cert with most of their hosting plans free of charge.

  • clear instructions about how to manage the website and Google ad words campaigns once they were finished their work
  • a reasonable cost structure where we could see the value for money within their work
